The UFC returns to free TV Saturday with a solid showing from the People’s Republic of China. “The Mongolian Wolf” Tiequan Zhang (15-3) opens the card against “Super Saiyan” Jon Tuck (8-0) followed by a pair of solid bouts featuring “Bruce Leeroy” Alex Caceres (7-5) against Motonobu Tezuka (19-4-4) and Mac Danzig (21-9-1) versus “The Fireball Kid” Takanori Gomi (33-8). Headlining the event is a meeting between two former middleweight champions “Ace” Rich Franklin (29-6), once the UFC 185lbs. king, and Cung Le (8-2), the San Shou master who once dominated the Strikeforce middleweight scene. Shoring up the former champs in the co-main is light heavyweight wrecking machine Thiago Silva (14-3-1) who will look for his first win since 2009 as he faces Stanislav Nedkov (12-0). Holding the anchor spot is Korean Judoka “Stun Gun” Dong Hyun Kim (15-2-1) as he meets struggling welterweight Paulo Thiago (14-4). Continue reading »

The UFC will present its sixth offering on the FOX cable network Fuel TV as the organization breaks into the Chinese market with an event in the Cotai Arena of Cotai, Macau, People’s Republic of China. Headlining the November 10 event is a pair of bouts featuring some of the UFC’s most exciting finishers as Cung Le (8-2) faces “Ace” Rich Franklin (29-6) and Thiago Silva (14-3) squares off with Stanislav Nedkov (12-0). Korean Judo ace “Stun Gun” Dong Hyun Kim (15-2-1) anchors the card against Paulo Thiago (14-4) but before those fireworks go off, Zuffa has arraigned for a trio of solid mixed martial arts contests. Starting the main card is a meeting between “The Mongolian Wolf” Tiequan Zhang (15-3) and UFC newcomer “Super Saiyan” Jon Tuck (6-0). Next on the slate “Bruce Leeroy” Alex Caceres (7-5) looks to break even in the UFC for the first time with a win over Motonobu Tezuka (19-4-4). Sitting squarely in the middle of the card, “The Fireball Kid” Takanori Gomi (33-8) rounds out the first half of the card in a bout against former TUF standout Mac Danzig (21-9-1). “The Truth” Brandon Vera (red gloves) has a dangerous Muay Thai skill set, but he will have to use his reach advantage and leg kicks to slow down “Shogun” Rua if he wants to stage an upset at UFC on FOX 4. (Photo courtesy of Zuffa, LLC.)

With three solid showings already, the FOX network broadcasts a card deserving a spot on the Pay-Per-View rotation as the UFC presents UFC on FOX 4: Shogun vs. Vera. “Quick” Mike Swick (14-4) returns after a two-year hiatus to battle with “Darkness” Damarques Johnson (15-10) in the main card opener. “C-4″ Jamie Varner (20-6-1) hopes to continue his resurgence in the lightweight division when he meets submission specialist “J-Lau” Joe Lauzon (21-7). In the co-main event, “Darth” Ryan Bader (14-2) returns after an impressive victory at UFC 144 to take on the unorthodox “The Dragon” Lyoto Machida (17-3). The landscape of the light heavyweight division is bound for drastic change as a title shot is up for grabs in the main event. Former champion “Shogun” Mauricio Rua (20-6) will try to make his way to the top of the mountain, but he will have to challenge a fellow Muay Thai wrecking machine, “The Truth” Brandon Vera (12-5). Each has dawdled in the light heavyweight division rankings but now that the path to gold is set in stone for them, it’s crucial for both men to make the best out of this opportunity. Jon Jones (blue gloves) is heavily favored over Rashad Evans, but he has been bullied around by aggressive strikers before and that may provide Evans the ammunition he needs to fire off and upset. (Photo courtesy of Zuffa, LLC.)

While the UFC has done an excellent job of promoting the animosity between training-partners-turned-foes for the upcoming title fight at UFC 145, there is more than meets the eye in the clash between UFC Light Heavyweight Champion “Bones” Jon Jones (15-1) and former champion “Suga” Rashad Evans (17-1-1).  There is much ado about the “betrayals” and various “hurt feelings” however more should be said about the caliber of the fighters and the technical skill that will have to be shown in the victor of this fight. TUF alum “The Darkness” DaMarques Johnson (15-9) faces off with British submission specialist “The One” John Maguire (17-3) in a welterweight affair, followed by German kickboxer Dennis Siver (19-8) making his 145lbs. debut against fellow striker “The Gun” Diego Nunes (17-2). Then, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu aficionado Paulo Thiago (14-3) welcomes long awaited prospect and United Glory, Sengoku, and Shooto veteran “The Great” Siyar Bahadurzada (20-4-1) to the UFC’s Octagon. Two of the middleweight division’s most battle-tested fighters, USMC war veteran “All-American” Brian Stann (11-4) and former pro boxer “Legionarius” Alessio Sakara (15-8) will be slinging fists in the UFC on Fuel 2 main event. “One Punch” Brad Pickett (20-6) and “The Angel of Death” Damacio Page (15-6) will hit the airwaves on Fuel TV this Saturday to kick off the first UFC fight card in over a month. Shored up by fights like “The Darkness” DaMarques Johnson (15-9) vs. “The One” John Maguire (17-3) and Dennis Siver (19-8) vs. “The Gun” Diego Nunes (17-2), UFC on Fuel TV: Gustafsson vs. Silva has the perfect line up to get fans ready for the following weekend’s UFC 145 card. Paulo Thiago (14-3) will step in to welcome hardcore favorite “Siyar the Great” Siyar Bahadurzada (20-4-1) as an anchor to the event preceding a co-main event between middleweight favorites “All-American” Brian Stann (11-4) and “Legionarius” Alessio Sakara (15-8). As always, all eyes are on the main event. This time it’s a knockout fan’s dream match between Swedish powerhouse Alexander Gustafsson (13-1) and returning beleaguered light heavyweight star Thiago Silva (14-2, 1 NC). The match is an important one for both men as it represents a major turning point in their respective careers. Continue reading »

After a month of flying under the MMA radar, the UFC presents UFC on Fuel TV: Gustafsson vs. Silva to whet the appetite of its fans prior to UFC 145 the following weekend. Thiago Silva (14-2, 1 NC) makes his return to the Octagon against Swedish killer “The Mauler” Alexander Gustafsson (13-1) as the main event following a stellar co-main involving  “All-American” Brian Stann (11-4) and “Legionarius” Alessio Sakara (15-8). “One Hit” Brad Pickett (20-6) and “The Angel of Death” Damacio Page (15-6) will open the card before “The Darkness” DaMarques Johnson (15-9) squares off with “The One” John Maguire (17-3) and Dennis Siver (19-8) goes to war with “The Gun” Diego Nunes (17-2). However, the fight that has the hardcore MMA fan base salivating is an affair between Brazilian welterweight Paulo Thiago (14-3) and Afghan phenom “Siyar the Great” Siyar Bahadurzada (20-4-1). While most casual fans have likely not heard of “Siyar the Great”, he has made quite an impression on the sport’s diehards with dominant wins over “The Eraser” Derrick Noble (26-15), “The Natural” John Alessio (34-14), and “Cyborg” Evangelista Santos (18-15). Thiago is known mainly for his dark horse obliteration of “Kos” Josh Koscheck (17-5), but is still the young Afghan’s stiffest test to date.   Continue reading »

The Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden hosts the UFC’s second installment of UFC on Fuel TV this Saturday with UFC on Fuel 2: Gustafsson vs. Silva.  The bantamweights start off the main card as “The Angel of Death” Damacio Page (15-6) clashes with “One Punch” Brad Pickett (20-6). Ultimate Fighter alumni “The Darkness” DaMarques Johnson (15-9) takes on fellow welterweight “The One” John Maguire (17-3). Paulo Thiago (14-3) is charged with the task of welcoming long awaited prospect “The Killer” Siyar Bahadurzada (20-4-1) in his UFC debut in the welterweight division. In the co-main event, “Legionarius” Alessio Sakara (15-8) and “The All-American” Brian Stann (11-4) are set to engage in a middleweight match-up. Thiago Silva (14-2) makes his return to action after a year long lay-off to take on the hometown hero, “The Mauler” Alexander Gustafsson (13-1) in the main event. In the middle of all this action, two featherweights are set to meet when “The Gun” Diego Nunes  (17-2) welcomes Dennis Siver (19-8) from the lightweight division.  With both men being strikers at heart who refuse to back down, it is a fight that all will be dying to watch. Following more than a month-long hiatus in which the only Zuffa action took place on The Ultimate Fighter Live, the UFC returns to action on Fuel TV for UFC on Fuel 2: Gustafsson vs. Silva. Taking center stage is a match-up between Swedish phenom “The Mauler” Alexander Gustafsson (13-1) and returning Brazilian killer Thiago Silva (14-2, 1 NC). “All-American” Brian Stann (11-4) pulled co-main duties against “Legionarius” Alessio Sakara (15-8) while Paulo Thiago (14-3), Siyar Bahadurzada (20-4-1), Dennis Siver (19-8), and “The Gun” Diego Nunes (17-2) anchor the main card with a pair of solid bouts. “One Punch” Brad Pickett (20-6) and “The Angel of Death” Damacio Page (15-6) will open the card and TUF alum “The Darkness” DaMarques Johnson (15-9) is set to face off with “The One” John Maguire (17-3) in a welterweight affair. Johnson has made a pedestrian 4-3 mark in the UFC and is in serious need of a second consecutive win to make anything of his career in the organization, but he faces a stern test in the British submission artist John Maguire who took care of his UFC debut jitters at UFC 138 when he increased his winning streak to six.    Continue reading »
