Premier Canadian mixed martial arts promotion Maximum Fighting Champion (MFC) is set to rock the Mayfield Conference Center in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on October 7. But instead of the IFL and UFC veteran “Mandingo” Antonio McKee (25-4-2) defending his MFC Lightweight Championship belt against Brian Cobb (16-6) in the main event as originally planned, fans will be treated to a light heavyweight clash between top Canadian fighter and reigning champ “Big Deal” Ryan Jimmo” (12-1) and UFC veteran “The African Assassin” Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (10-8) in which the MFC 205lb. championship belt is on the line. MFC 31 also marks Sokoudjou’s promotional debut.

“I am extremely excited to see what happens when Jimmo and Sokoudjou collide. I truly believe it will be the most explosive title fight in MFC history,” MFC President Mark Pavelich of the card’s new main event. “Ryan is a terrific champion and represents the MFC like no other fighter ever has before. Now we’re going to see how he handles the athleticism and pressure that Sokoudjou will put on him.”

The card is over two months away but it’s already shaping up nicely. Today the promotion announced that “Ragin” Kajan Johnson (14-8-1) is scheduled to take on Richie Whitson (8-1) in a lightweight bout and Mukai Maromo (6-2) will face “The Persian Warrior” Sabah Fadai (3-1) in a battle of featherweights on the MFC 31 main card. The former main event title fight between McKee and Cobb was dropped entirely from the card for undisclosed reasons but has been rescheduled for MFC 32 in November.
