Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC) returns to River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on February 25 with MFC 28: Supremacy live on HDNet. The card boasts a huge main event with “Big Deal” Ryan Jimmo (10-1) taking on “D-Bomb” Dwayne Lewis (12-5) for the vacant MFC Light Heavyweight title in a rematch of their MFC: Unplugged 3 bout in 2007. In that first meeting the two men battled for the entire duration of the fight but it was Jimmo who ultimately got the unanimous nod from the judges. This time, the stakes are even higher, as Jimmo and Lewis will be fighting for MFC gold.
With notable wins over “The Loudmouth Assassin” Marcus Hicks (6-19) and UFC veterans “The Beastman” Marvin Eastman (16-13-1) and “Razor” Razak Al-Hassan (11-3), Dwayne Lewis will not only be trying to avenge his 2007 loss to Jimmo but also will be fighting to have a gold belt wrapped about his waist for the first time in his professional MMA career. “D-Bomb” is well known among the light heavyweight division for his stand-and-bang mantra, as he has earned nine out of his total 12 victories via TKO/KO. Four of his five defeats stem from the judges’ score cards with the one remaining loss coming via knockout – the only time Lewis have ever been finished in a fight. Lewis will be looking to even the score with his opponent and become MFC’s new 205lbs. champ.
Standing across from Lewis in the ring will be The Ultimate Fighter Season 8 hopeful Ryan Jimmo, whose only losses came in his professional MMA debut against Adam Braidwood (1-0) and in his entry fight into the TUF 8 house against current Strikeforce 205lbs. competitor “The Juggernaut” Antwain Britt (12-5), to whom he lost via Majority Decision (the latter of the two losses was an exhibition match, thus is not included in his official record). Jimmo is riding a six fight winning streak coming into MFC 28, including victories over TUF 3 alum “Kid Hercules” Jesse Forbes (15-5), Marvin Eastman, and UFC veteran and American Top Team fighter Wilson Gouveia (12-8). Six of Jimmo’s total wins have come by way of decision while two submissions and two TKOs comprise the rest. “Big Deal” looks to extend his winning streak and stay 2-0 against a dangerous opponent and knockout artist in Dwayne Lewis, and walk out of the cage as the new MFC Light Heavyweight Champion.
The promotion’s 205lbs. belt was left vacant by Trevor Prangley (22-6-1), who defeated “Hard-Core Kid” Emmanuel Newton (12-6-1) for the belt at MFC 21: Hard Knocks in May 2009 but was eventually stripped of the title and released from MFC that October without having defended the belt following an alleged breach of contract. Following his win over Newton, Prangley supposedly violated his exclusive contract with MFC by taking a September 2009 fight against Dennis Reed (45-47-1) in the Arena Rumble organization, then another with Shark Fight Promotions in taking on “Money” Marcus Sursa (10-6).
The rest of the MFC 28: Supremacy main card features UFC alum and two MMA veterans looking to make it closer to title contention in their respective divisions. Other fights announced on the card so far:
“Ragin” Kajan Johnson (14-8-1) vs. “Hell Boy” Richie Whitson (1-1 officially, 10-1 including unsanctioned bouts)
Razak Al-Hassan vs. “Sho Nuff” Rodney Wallace (10-3)
Sheldon Westcott (4-0) vs. “Wildman” Thomas Denny (26-18)
