Following a successful Fight for the Troops event in Afghanistan, Wreck MMA returns to its home in Canada for their first event of the new year with Wreck MMA: Strong and Proud. The January 28 card at Casino Lac-Lemay in Gatineau, Quebec plays host to a dozen fights featuring the full gamut of competitors ranging from former UFC contenders to aspiring prospects making their professional debut. The main event highlights one of Canada’s top welterweights “Young Guns” Jordan Mein (13-5) taking on the seasoned UFC, Strikeforce, and Rage in the Cage veteran “Diesel” Joe Riggs (33-12) and is supported by “Boots” Mark Holst (8-3) clashing with “Showtime” Markhaille Wedderburn (7-8) in the co-main event for what likely will be Holst’s last fight before hanging up his gloves for good, as he looks to focus on opening his own MMA school. Fellow main card competitor Robin Black (3-3) also is rumored to be calling it quits after his bout against Mike Reilly (1-0). Last Saturday, MMA Gospel was in attendance for Xtreme Fighting Organization’s (XFO) most recent effort in XFO 38, which featured the highly anticipated return to the cage for former UFC Lightweight Champion “Lil’ Evil” Jens Pulver (23-14-1) as well as  23 other mixed martial arts contests. In addition to the 20 amateur bouts featuring fighters from local camps large and small, the XFO gave fans four professional offerings featuring some of the area’s favorite young pros and the professional debut of two men eager to turn their amateur success into thriving MMA careers. The Woodstock Harley Davidson was packed with eager MMA fans who showed the level of respect for fighters that one finds at only the local level and they were not disappointed with the show. This Saturday at the “Shark Tank” HP Pavillion in San Jose, California, Strikeforce presents two title fights with its Diaz vs. Cyborg card. The main event will feature current Strikeforce Welterweight Champion “Diablo” Nick Diaz (22-8) taking on “Cyborg” Evangelista Santos (17-13) for the 170lbs. title along with the co-main event showcasing the classic striker vs. grappler match-up with Jiu-Jitsu ace “Jacare” Ronaldo Souza (12-2) defending his middleweight belt against  slugger “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler (18-6). The crowd will also be treated to Roger Gracie’s (3-0) return to the Strikeforce cage, fighting Lion’s Den graduate Trevor Prangley (22-6-1), as well as the highly anticipated return of 48-year-old former NFL star and current American Kickboxing Academy fighter Herschel Walker (1-0) taking on Scott Carson (4-1) in just his second appearance not only in the Strikeforce promotion, but in the cage.
