On Friday August 6 The Combat Fight League brought an incredible 7 bout amateur event to West Coast Jiu Jitsu in Oxnard, California with “Ground Zero”, the debut event for the brand new Combat Fight League. CFL founder Julius Mojica and West Coast Jiu Jitsu owner Brian Espinosa packed 400 MMA fans into Brian’s West Coast JJ center that is slated to host most of the CFL’s Ventura County events. At about 3,000 square feet the venue was packed to standing room only with fans and MMA celebs alike who were clearly impressed with a 7 bout card that had many over heard saying “best event I have seen this year”.
The crowd included such notable as WEC’s Ed “9mm” Ratcliff and Karen Darabedyan, The Ultimate Fighter Season 12′s Sako Chivitchian and Season 11′s Joseph Henle, Hye Fighter Jared “the Jackhammer” Papazian and local pro fighters Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson, Todd “The Reignman” Templeton, Nick “Monkey Wrench” Willert, Eddie Mendez, Miles Howard and the great “Judo” Gene LeBell.
Having attended other events produced by Julius I came to the inaugural “Ground Zero” event expecting action packed, evenly matched bouts and a very friendly atmosphere. The new Combat Fight League provided exactly that. Over the years Julius Mojica has clearly defined his brand of MMA show and is now able to present that brand consistently.
Loading 400 fans, a cage, food and beer concessions into such a “cozy” venue is no easy task but his team made it all work. The ability of the CFL team to execute solid events is clearly the reason why the International Mixed Martial Arts Expo (IMMAE) has chosen Julius and his CFL team to present the MMA event entitled “Invasion” at this years IMMAE show being held in Anaheim California the weekend of August 21 and 22.
